The Extent of Faculty Members' Adherence to Quality Standards in Developing Achievement Tests at Mahweet University.

Abstract

This study aimed at determining the degree to which faculty members at Al-Mahweet University apply quality standards in constructing achievement tests. In order to fulfill the goals of this research, a descriptive analysis method was used by the researcher. A research tool in the form of a questionnaire was constructed comprising of 24 questions categorized into three broad categories; the first category consisted of 9 questions, the second one consisted of 9 questions, and the third category comprised of 6 questions. The questionnaire was used on a sample of 60 faculty members at Al-Mahweet University, which constituted 45% of the total number of members in the study population, amounting to 132 individuals. The results obtained from the research showed that the level of compliance with quality standards in test construction by faculty members in Al-Mahweet University was moderate. Domain one (Psychometric Features of the Test) came first with high compliance, whereas domain two (Levels of Thinking Based on Learning Outcomes) took the second position with moderate compliance. Lastly, domain three (Compliance with Table of Specifications and Relative Weight of Learning Outcomes/Topics) came last in third place with low compliance. Moreover, the results also showed that there was no statistically significant difference (at α ≤ 0.05) based on either the variable of specialization or the variable of experience. The recommendation drawn from this research was that there was a need to develop guidelines on how to construct tests, along with organizing workshops on test construction skills, especially on thinking level measurement and table of specification construction.
