Abstract

This research aims to establish the concept of linguistic security within the context of contemporary digital transformations, particularly in light of the rapid development of generative artificial intelligence technologies. It analyzes the reality of Arabic linguistic security in the age of generative artificial intelligence in Yemen, explores its challenges and opportunities, and proposes a practical framework for its enhancement. The research adopts a descriptive-analytical approach, supported by benchmarking, to analyze the reality of Arabic linguistic security in the digital environment, explore the challenges and opportunities posed by large-scale linguistic models, and assess the level of structural and institutional readiness in Yemen. It also employs a forward-looking approach to build a practical framework for enhancing linguistic security in the Yemeni context. The research concludes that the concept of linguistic security has undergone a qualitative shift from a traditional normative approach concerned with preserving the integrity of the language to a digital sovereignty approach linked to controlling language production and representation within intelligent models. The results also reveal a complex structure of challenges in the Yemeni context, including dependency The study identified several challenges, including the algorithmic nature of language, weak digital representation of linguistic identity, and institutional shortcomings in language governance. Conversely, the findings highlighted strategic opportunities offered by generative artificial intelligence (GAI), most notably: digitizing linguistic heritage, building national corpora, developing language models adapted to the local context, and enhancing smart language education. The research concluded that strengthening linguistic security in Yemen requires a strategic shift from a "digital consumption" to a "digital language production" paradigm. This necessitates adopting an integrated approach based on developing digital language infrastructure, building national capacities in computational linguistics, activating language governance, and enhancing Arabic content in the digital sphere. Such an approach would achieve digital linguistic sovereignty and safeguard cultural identity in the age of artificial intelligence.
